Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency said Naqvi’s visit was part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and support negotiations between Tehran and Washington following a fragile ceasefire.
Naqvi was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The visit comes days after Asim Munir, serving as Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, travelled to Tehran as part of Islamabad’s mediation efforts regarding the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
During his earlier visit in April, Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Commander Ali Abdollahi, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Iranian media reported that Momeni appreciated Field Marshal Munir’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Tehran and Washington.
During Saturday’s meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations, regional security and possible ways to revive peace negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Pakistan has recently played an active mediatory role and hosted direct talks between Iranian and American delegations in Islamabad last month.
A ceasefire announced on April 9 largely halted fighting that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had received messages from Washington indicating that the administration of Donald Trump remained interested in continuing negotiations.
Earlier this week, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that Washington should accept Iran’s proposed 14-point peace framework or face continued diplomatic failure after Trump reportedly rejected Tehran’s counteroffer and described the ceasefire as being on “life support”.
