Addressing supporters, Nawaz said: "Bilawal, do not mind my remarks. Political parties should have healthy banter." He added that politics should be based on democratic competition rather than violence.
The former prime minister said he considered Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) his "first home" rather than a second home and claimed that no major development had taken place in the region after he was removed from office.
"I want to ask what those who came after me did for AJK," he said.
The remarks come ahead of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections, which will be held in three phases beginning July 27. According to Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, polling in Mirpur Division will take place on July 27, followed by Muzaffarabad Division on August 2 and Poonch Division on August 10.
Highlighting the PML-N s election manifesto, Nawaz questioned whether any political party other than his own had delivered significant development projects for Azad Kashmir.
He pledged to prioritise education for the youth and announced plans to establish more cancer and cardiac hospitals across the region.
The PML-N president also said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was bringing electric buses and 10 mobile hospitals for Mirpur.
Outlining his development agenda, Nawaz promised to construct motorways across AJK, build an expressway linking Murree and Muzaffarabad, provide natural gas to every household in Mirpur and seek approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for an international airport in the city if the PML-N forms the next AJK government.
Addressing the rally, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed confidence that the PML-N would emerge victorious across all three divisions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the region had abundant resources but required better infrastructure to unlock its potential.
"There is no shortage of resources in AJK. The real need is for better infrastructure, including hospitals, metro and electric bus services, ration programmes, housing schemes and the political will to deliver them," she said.
Maryam also pledged that the public welfare initiatives currently being implemented in Punjab would be extended to Azad Jammu and Kashmir if the PML-N wins the upcoming elections.
