According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), rising temperatures, an active monsoon system and westerly waves are expected to increase the risk of flooding in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The authority warned that glacier-fed areas, including Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Skardu, Shigar, Ghanche, Kharmang, Astore, Diamer, Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat and surrounding valleys, face a heightened threat of GLOFs, flash floods, landslides and debris flows.
The NDMA also cautioned that increased water flow in the Hispar-Hopper Nullah could trigger flash floods, riverbank erosion and damage to nearby communities.
A separate flash flood advisory warned of possible flooding in seasonal streams and hill torrents across KP, Punjab, Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan between July 1 and 4.
In KP, districts including Charsadda, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Swat, Chitral and Kohistan are expected to face increased water flows.
In Punjab, seasonal streams in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore and several other districts may overflow, while localised flash floods are forecast in parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Sibi, Kohlu and Dera Bugti.
The NDMA also warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities, which could disrupt traffic and damage roads, bridges and other public infrastructure.
Authorities have been directed to ensure emergency preparedness, monitor river flows and glacial lakes, and maintain drainage systems, while residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official safety instructions.
