New Spell of Rain and Snow Expected Across Pakistan From Tomorrow, Advisory Issued

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a weather advisory covering the period from 31 January to 4 February.

According to the PMD, a weak western weather system is set to enter Pakistan’s western and northern regions and is expected to persist until 3 February. During this period, cloudy conditions, rainfall, and light to moderate snowfall are likely in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and northern areas.

From 1 to 3 February, rain is expected in Islamabad, the Potohar region, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and surrounding areas, while Murree, Galiyat, and nearby hill stations may experience rain accompanied by snowfall. In addition, from 31 January to 1 February, northern parts of Balochistan could see rain and snowfall with thunderstorm activity.

The Met Office has warned that snow-covered roads may become slippery, disrupting traffic flow. Travelers heading to mountainous areas have been advised to take precautionary measures. There is also a risk of avalanches and landslides in high-altitude regions such as Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Naran, Kaghan, Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu.

In its advisory, the NDMA stated that most parts of Punjab are likely to experience cold and dry weather, while Murree, Galiyat, and Potohar may receive light rain and snowfall between 31 January and 3 February.

In Balochistan, cold and dry conditions are expected in most areas, although rain and snowfall are likely in the northern and central mountainous regions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plains are also expected to remain cold and dry, with light rain and snowfall forecast for the province’s upper and northern districts.

In Sindh, cold and dry weather may lead to fog formation, particularly during early morning hours. Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to remain severely cold and cloudy, with intermittent snowfall in upper areas and sustained cold conditions.

Authorities have urged the public to stay updated on weather forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk areas, and follow safety guidelines to minimize weather-related disruptions.

As winter tightens its grip, the coming days are expected to test both travel plans and preparedness, making caution the best companion during this spell of unsettled weather.
