The 34-year-old Mamdani was elected mayor on Tuesday, and soon after, a video from his election campaign began circulating widely on social media. The same video was later reshared by Ramiz Raja himself.
In the viral clip, Mamdani can be seen addressing his campaign team. To lift their spirits, he quoted Ramiz Raja’s famous commentary line: “To snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”
Reacting to the video, the former Pakistani cricketer shared it on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) and congratulated Mamdani on his win. Ramiz wrote: “Congratulations, Mr. Mamdani, and thank you for being a fan of cricket commentary! You played with a straight bat and exposed those who never really played the game. Proud of you!”
