Speaking at a press conference, Dar said the Fauji Foundation would lead the transaction, which is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. He said once the deal is finalised, the amount would no longer be treated as a liability for Pakistan.
Dar also said that during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE assured Pakistan of a two billion dollar rollover, reinforcing bilateral financial cooperation.
Reflecting on economic policy, Dar said the government aims to turn Pakistan into an economic powerhouse through a coordinated strategy for stability and growth, crediting the prime minister for sustained efforts to strengthen the economy.
On the economic front, he highlighted Pakistan’s strong trade position with the United States, with trade volume at 13.28 billion dollars and currently in surplus. He also cited financial support from China worth four billion dollars, three billion dollars from the UAE, and assistance from Saudi Arabia linked to the IMF programme.
Dar said Pakistan’s global standing has improved, pointing to renewed dialogue with the European Union, strong ties with Beijing, the Middle East and Central Asia, and a strategic defence agreement with Saudi Arabia. He also condemned recent attacks on Tehran.
On Palestine, Dar said Islamabad would not disarm Hamas, condemned Israeli violations, and noted coordinated efforts by eight Muslim countries, including five Arab states, working with the United States to push for peace.
