Speaking at a seminar in Islamabad on the Indus Waters Treaty, he said India’s objective is to undermine Pakistan’s water rights, warning that blocking Pakistan’s water would be equivalent to an act of war.

He stressed that water is not just a geographic resource but a matter of food security, future stability, and human survival, adding that water resources are becoming a central issue in global politics and security.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Pakistan does not seek conflict, but will take all necessary steps to protect its core interests and water rights. He added that any attempt to harm Pakistan’s water share would be met with a national response, and the country stands united to defend the rights of millions of citizens.

He also urged the international community to recognise the seriousness of “weaponising water” and to play its role in ensuring protection of Pakistan’s water rights under the Indus Waters Treaty.

He further said India’s approach is setting a dangerous precedent for the world and reaffirmed that Pakistan will never compromise on its water rights or fundamental national interests.
