Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan remains committed to actively participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions and strengthening global peace efforts. On the occasion of the UN Peacekeepers Day, he highlighted that Pakistan’s continued contribution reflects its enduring dedication to international peace, security, and multilateral principles.

He praised the brave men and women serving under the UN flag for their services alongside the global community. The annual observance of this day acknowledges the tireless efforts and sacrifices of military, police, and civilian personnel in conflict-affected regions for maintaining global peace and security.

This year, the day is being observed under the theme invest in peace, emphasizing the importance of sustained political commitment and financial support for promoting lasting peace and protecting human lives worldwide.

The day also commemorates the first UN peace mission, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, established in 1948 in Palestine.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that over 2 million men and women have served in more than 70 UN peace missions globally. Pakistan is among the leading countries with the longest record of service in UN peace operations.

Since 1960, Pakistan has contributed personnel to over 48 missions, totaling more than 235,000 individuals, including over 500 women. It is a matter of pride that Pakistan is the fifth largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping missions.

He added that these brave personnel have made extraordinary sacrifices for humanity and global stability. Over 4,400 personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty, including more than 181 Pakistani peacekeepers, reflecting their unwavering commitment.
