According to the President House media wing, President Zardari expressed these views in a congratulatory message sent to Myanmar’s Acting President, Min Aung Hlaing, on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, and on his own behalf, the president extended heartfelt congratulations to the acting president, the government and the people of Myanmar.
President Zardari said that Pakistan and Myanmar share a long history of cordial relations dating back to the early years of Myanmar’s independence, founded on mutual respect and understanding. He added that these ties have been further strengthened by historical and cultural links and a tradition of goodwill between the two nations.
He noted that bilateral relations have continued to improve over time, with expanding cooperation in diverse fields including trade, defence, health, culture and people-to-people contacts. He expressed confidence that practical measures and stronger institutional linkages would further promote the shared interests of both countries.
Highlighting the importance of broader regional connectivity, President Zardari said Myanmar’s role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is vital for regional stability and economic integration. He stated that Pakistan, as a sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN, is keen to strengthen engagement with ASEAN and its member states, including Myanmar, to promote connectivity, development and mutual harmony.
The president reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Myanmar and encouraging greater interaction between the public and private sectors. He said such engagement could help translate long-standing goodwill into tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
President Zardari also conveyed his best wishes for the good health and success of the acting president in his responsibilities, and expressed hopes for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Myanmar.
