According to insiders, players from teams such as the UAE, Oman, Italy, Canada, and the United States some of whom hold ‘green passports’ or have Pakistani heritage may face hurdles in securing timely visas.
The boards of these teams have started holding consultations among themselves, voicing concerns over potential delays. While formal communication with the ICC has taken place, no guarantees have been provided.
Historical patterns are adding to the apprehension. In the past, cricketers with Pakistani backgrounds have faced difficulties obtaining Indian visas, and the boards fear that players with Pakistani passports might experience even greater complications.
‘The boards are worried because previous experiences show that only players with Pakistani roots faced challenges. Imagine what it will mean for those holding Pakistani passports,’ a source familiar with the matter said.
As the T20 World Cup approaches, these visa uncertainties could overshadow preparations for several associate nations, raising questions about accessibility and fairness for players with complex backgrounds.
