Responding to media questions, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that recent condemnable incidents of vandalism during Christmas, along with state-sponsored campaigns against Muslims including the demolition of their homes and repeated incidents of lynching have further deepened fear and a sense of alienation among Muslims.

He said that the case of Muhammad Akhlaq is a clear example, in which state institutions attempted to shield the perpetrators from accountability. He added that the list of such victims is unfortunately, a long one.

The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized that the international community should take notice of these developments in India and take appropriate steps to protect the fundamental human rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities there.
