He expressed confidence that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz would secure “historic results” in the next general election.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of a new mass transport system, the prime minister said the recent election outcome in Punjab reflected strong public trust in the PML-N leadership.

He noted that the current government had a three-year mandate to serve the public and urged party members to work with full dedication under the guidance of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

In remarks aired live on national television, Shehbaz said he believed the government’s ongoing projects and its “hard work” would translate into positive electoral gains. He added that the journey toward progress had just begun and that rapid development would help the party achieve a record victory in the next polls.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal and provincial ministers, lawmakers, senior officials and local residents.

Shehbaz described the new mass transit project as a major initiative designed to ease urban mobility and provide better access for daily commuters, including students, patients, workers and professionals. He called the project a “gift” from the Punjab chief minister and said it would significantly improve the district’s infrastructure.

The prime minister recalled that Punjab’s development trajectory began in 1985 under Nawaz Sharif, who introduced major infrastructure and economic reforms at a time when national politics was defined by slogans and confrontation. These efforts, he said, built the foundation for a new political direction that shaped the 1988 elections and subsequent years.

Shehbaz said that history would remember Nawaz Sharif’s contributions “in golden words,” referring in particular to Pakistan’s nuclear tests. He remarked that the outcome of the recent tensions with India in May would have been different had those tests not taken place.

He added that Punjab’s development had accelerated under Maryam Nawaz’s “dynamic and young leadership,” citing projects such as a new cancer hospital, expansions in metro bus services, environmental initiatives, housing schemes for the underprivileged, flood relief work and upgrades in school facilities.

According to him, these efforts “speak for themselves and cannot be ignored, even by political rivals.”

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also addressed the gathering and highlighted key initiatives launched by her administration.
