Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced the decision at a press conference in Lahore, citing the group’s involvement in destructive demonstrations across the province.
Bokhari said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for a Gaza ceasefire had been acknowledged globally, yet TLP chose to protest after a peace agreement was already in place. The protest, she noted, led to widespread property damage and violence, including the torching of police vehicles.
“Did burning police cars resolve the Gaza issue?” Bokhari asked, stressing that the state would no longer tolerate violence under the guise of protest.
She confirmed that the Punjab government had forwarded a summary to the federal government, recommending a nationwide ban on TLP.
The move follows earlier reports suggesting that the provincial authorities were preparing to outlaw the group and initiate the process of seizing its assets.
