A mass wedding ceremony under the Punjab Dhi Rani Program was held at a local marquee on Sheikhupura Road, Faisalabad. The event was attended by Provincial Minister for Social Welfare, Sohail Shaukat Butt, who served as the chief guest.
Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar, along with Members of the Provincial Assembly Azad Ali Tabassum, Jafar Hocha, and Faqir Hussain Dogar, and other notable figures, were also present on the occasion.
During the ceremony, 111 deserving couples were married under the Dhi Rani Program. The initiative also ensured inclusive representation, as marriages of eight daughters from the Christian community were part of the event. Additionally, daughters of prisoners were included, reflecting the program’s humane and inclusive approach.
Each newly married couple received a cash gift of Rs 200,000 through ATM cards, presented on behalf of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, to help them begin their new lives with confidence and stability.
Speaking at the event, Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt stated that the government aims to complete the marriages of 5,000 girls by the end of February. He described the Punjab Dhi Rani Program as a practical model of social welfare, designed to ensure respectable marriages and long-term protection for underprivileged girls.
‘The welfare and independence of daughters is our top priority,’ the minister said, adding that the program is meant to share the financial burden of parents struggling with limited resources.
He emphasized that unlike previous governments that relied on promises, Maryam Nawaz has set a clear example of action driven governance. All wedding expenses are being fully covered by the Punjab government, ensuring no additional pressure on families.
The minister noted that the program goes beyond arranging marriages. ‘This initiative is about restoring dignity, self-respect, and social security for daughters,’ he said.
The Punjab government, he added, will continue to support deserving families across all districts, reaffirming its commitment to long-term social care and protection for women.
