The government has issued a formal gazette notification detailing the revised penalties for a wide range of traffic violations.
Under the new rules, the minimum fines for common offenses have been raised sharply, motorcyclists will face a minimum fine of PKR 2,000, car drivers PKR 3,000, and commercial vehicles PKR 15,000.
Traffic signal violations, a frequent cause of accidents, now carry heavier penalties. Motorcyclists breaking signals will be fined PKR 2,000, car drivers PKR 5,000, and commercial vehicle operators could face fines up to PKR 15,000.
Careless driving has also been targeted, with fines for negligent motorcycle riding increasing to PKR 3,000. Additionally, driving without a valid license will now cost PKR 2,000 for motorcyclists and PKR 5,000 for car drivers.
In a move to curb repeat offenders, the government has introduced a points based system for driving licenses. Drivers accumulating points due to continuous violations may face stricter enforcement measures, making it clear that persistent lawbreakers will not be given a free pass.
Officials say the new measures aim not only to penalize offenders but also to encourage responsible driving habits, making roads safer for all.
