In a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, officials discussed the creation of an independent authority to oversee urban design and ensure that cities across Punjab maintain a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

For the first time in the province’s history, schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other public buildings will follow standardized design guidelines, with a comprehensive design manual to be prepared under the supervision of the government.

Roads, green belts, footpaths, signboards, and street furniture will also follow a uniform style, giving every city a consistent and elegant look. Even small roadside kiosks and shops will adopt the same design to reduce visual clutter and create a more orderly environment.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of aesthetics in public spaces, stating that ‘we want every city in Punjab to be inviting and beautiful. Uniform infrastructure and street furniture make our cities visually appealing and more livable.’

Officials highlighted that the move will not only improve the look of cities but also enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall experience of daily life for residents.

The new policy reflects a vision where form meets function and where urban spaces are practical, pleasant, and culturally resonant. By promoting consistent design across public buildings, roads, and recreational spaces, Punjab aims to create cities that are not just functional, but also inspiring, orderly, and full of character.

The establishment of a dedicated design and standardization unit will ensure that the guidelines are followed consistently, setting a benchmark for future urban development. This initiative is expected to transform Punjab’s cities into well planned, beautiful spaces that residents and visitors alike can enjoy.
