Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Khorev said no official request had yet been made by Pakistan, adding that progress in energy cooperation depends on Islamabad initiating engagement. He described the energy sector as the most crucial pillar of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Pakistan is currently facing rising fuel costs amid global supply disruptions caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East. Oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have been severely affected after Iran blocked the route in response to joint strikes by the United States and Israel.
Amid the crisis, Pakistan has increased petrol and diesel prices by around 20%, with officials stating the hike is temporary and will be reversed once the situation stabilizes.
Khorev noted that Iran’s response has primarily targeted US military installations in Gulf waters but refrained from detailed comments due to the evolving situation. He described the current geopolitical environment as “complex and unpredictable,” referencing actions by Donald Trump that have heightened tensions.
The Russian envoy also condemned an attack on a girls’ school in Iran that reportedly killed 170 children, calling it “highly deplorable” and urging all sides to exercise restraint.
He called for disputes to be resolved through political and diplomatic means in line with the United Nations Charter, while criticizing the actions of the United States and Israel, stating that their use of force has intensified the crisis and contributed to instability in the region.
