Speaking at a press conference, Memon said that Hashmi’s comments reflect a clear lack of understanding of constitutional and administrative matters. He stressed that such statements do not merely cross a line of taste but hurt public sentiment and distort reality.

The senior minister stated that discussing a sensitive tragedy without full facts creates a false narrative and spreads confusion among the public. He reminded that Sindh is a constitutional province, governed through democratic institutions and the rule of law, not casual opinions aired on television shows.

Sharjeel Memon emphasized that governance is not a joke and public suffering is not entertainment. He said that remarks about ‘privatizing Sindh or Karachi’ show carelessness and a shallow approach to serious civic issues. According to him, such talk undermines the gravity of real problems faced by millions.

Calling Karachi the heart of Sindh, Memon said the city’s challenges require serious policy decisions, proper resources, and collective effort, not quick comments made for applause or viral clips. ‘Cities are fixed through hard work, not punchlines,’ he added.

The minister also briefed the media on the immediate actions taken after the Gul Plaza incident. He confirmed that the Director of Civil Defense South District and the KWSB hydrant in charge were suspended, while KMC Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi was removed from his position.

Addressing concerns of political interference, Sharjeel Memon said that although some groups are trying to politicize the tragedy, the Sindh government has decided to conduct the investigation through a judicial commission. He assured that the process would be transparent, independent, and free from pressure.

‘This decision is not driven by politics but by the pursuit of truth,’ he said, adding that identifying the real causes of the tragedy is essential to prevent such incidents in the future.

The senior minister urged the media to promote responsible journalism, saying that public issues should be handled with seriousness and care, not treated as material for entertainment.

It is worth noting that after the Gul Plaza incident, Tabish Hashmi released a video statement suggesting that Karachi should be sold, similar to Pakistan International Airlines, claiming that city residents could run it better themselves.

His remarks sparked strong criticism from political circles, while some citizens also expressed support for his viewpoint, reflecting a divided public reaction.
