The meeting included senior figures such as Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine.
Discussions focused heavily on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, and the future of diplomatic efforts with Iran. Officials also considered the possibility of Vance leading future negotiations, following his recent role in talks held in Islamabad.
Reports indicate that the current 15-day ceasefire window between the US and Iran is set to expire within three days, with no new round of talks formally scheduled.
While Trump has previously expressed optimism about reaching a deal, uncertainty continues to surround the negotiations. A senior US official warned that failure to achieve a breakthrough could lead to a rapid escalation in tensions and a renewed risk of conflict.
