TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Vice Chairman Allama Raja Nasir Abbas travelled from Islamabad to Lahore via GT Road. TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain said the leaders will remain in the provincial capital for three days to participate in political activities.
Former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and TTAP Secretary General and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser are also expected to join the programme, according to The News.
The mobilisation is tied to the upcoming anniversary of the 2024 general elections, which Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other opposition parties allege were marred by rigging and manipulation.
Speaking to the media, Achakzai said the movement was aimed at protecting the constitution and opposing oppression, stressing that the protests would remain peaceful and within constitutional limits. He urged those who believe in constitutional rule and peace to support the campaign, warning that the country was heading towards instability and that relations with neighbouring states were deteriorating.
He reiterated that TTAP has called for protests on February 8 and that the movement has already begun.
Political tensions have persisted between PTI and the ruling coalition since the 2024 polls, with repeated protest drives met by strict government action.
Meanwhile, PTI rejected a recent proposal by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah for a meeting of the country’s top political leaders to address the ongoing crisis. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said there was neither a need nor scope for such a meeting.
