Secretary Housing, Noor ul Amin Mengal, held a detailed meeting with the AIIB delegation, where ongoing projects and loan agreements were reviewed in a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation. The discussion focused on progress, planning clarity, and long-term public benefit.
Managing Director WASA Lahore, Ghufran Ahmed, gave a comprehensive briefing on the project, highlighting its technical strength and public value. Environmental and technical experts from the AIIB carefully examined key aspects of the project, appreciating its design and future impact.
The AIIB delegation praised the Tunnel Boring Trenchless Technology initiative and officially termed it a ‘Star Project,’ noting that it reflects smart planning and forward looking governance. The delegation also showed keen interest in expanding cooperation with the Punjab Government on other development projects.
Secretary Housing directed that all hurdles in the tunnel boring project be removed without delay, stressing that speed with quality is the need of the hour. He said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, projects with clear public benefit are being introduced across the province.
‘Following the model of developed countries, a modern sewerage system will be laid through tunnel boring technology,’ said Noor-ul-Amin Mengal. He added that in Lahore, 32 kilometers of old and worn-out sewerage lines will be rebuilt from Larex Colony to Gulshan e Ravi.
The project is expected to benefit more than 2.5 million residents, bringing lasting relief to a densely populated urban area. One of its key strengths is that, under trenchless technology, daily life will not be disturbed.
‘Traffic flow will remain smooth, and citizens will stay safe during construction,’ the Secretary Housing assured. He described the project as a clear reflection of the Chief Minister’s vision, commitment, and focus on public welfare.
The project has already received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), giving it strong institutional backing and national importance.
With modern methods, careful planning, and international cooperation, the Tunnel Boring Trenchless Technology project stands as a symbol of practical progress quietly working underground, while improving life above it.
