DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran said Rescue 1122 recovered the woman’s body, and all relevant agencies are working around the clock to trace the missing child. CCTV footage has reportedly supported the statement given by the woman’s husband, who said the couple had visited Data Darbar to offer prayers before the incident.
Safe City Lahore authorities have secured key evidence from the area. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formed a high level investigative committee led by the Additional Chief Secretary, directing it to submit a report within 24 hours. Following her orders, TEPA Director Shabbir Hussain, Project Director Zahid Abbas, and Deputy Director Shabbir Ahmed have been suspended over alleged negligence.
Earlier, rescue officials had stated that it was technically unlikely for someone to drown at the initially reported sewer site near Bird Market, where maintenance work had already been carried out. However, eyewitnesses later claimed the woman and her baby were sitting near an open drain and accidentally fell in.
Rescue teams, including divers, continue intensive efforts to locate the missing infant, as the incident raises serious concerns about public safety and administrative lapses in the city.
