During a two-hour detailed inspection of the Emergency Department and several wards of LGH, Professor Farooq Afzal reviewed not only medical services but also cleanliness, security, and administrative discipline, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Speaking on the occasion, he stressed that real change must be visible on the ground, not just written in files. He said strict compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education would be ensured at all costs.
The inspection was attended by Medical Superintendent Professor Dr. Faryad Hussain, administrative doctors, nursing management, and other healthcare professionals.
Professor Farooq Afzal ordered the immediate transfer of nursing and clerical staff who had been posted for long periods in the Nursing Superintendent’s Office and directed that a female clerk be appointed there. He also issued stern warnings to private security companies and sanitation contractors, stating that failure to improve performance would lead to action under rules and regulations.
He made it clear that providing the best possible care to patients is the hospital administration’s top priority. Any staff member found negligent will have their performance recorded in their Annual Confidential Report (ACR). He further directed strict enforcement of the ‘one patient, one attendant’ policy to ensure a calm and focused working environment for medical staff.
Professor Farooq Afzal concluded by saying that regular monitoring will continue, and such surprise visits will remain part of his strategy to keep hospital services on the right track.
