According to a report from 9to5Mac, Apple is developing a broader range of smart-home products after years of focusing primarily on the HomePod mini and Apple TV.
The first wave of new products is expected to include updated versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K, which could arrive later this fall.
The next-generation HomePod mini is reportedly expected to move from Apple's S5 chip to the S9 chip, along with improved wireless connectivity and additional colour options. The updated Apple TV 4K, meanwhile, could receive an upgrade from the A15 Bionic chip to the A17 Pro, potentially allowing it to support some Apple Intelligence features.
Despite the hardware upgrades, both products are expected to retain their existing prices. The HomePod mini is reportedly expected to remain at $129, while the Apple TV 4K could continue to start at $199.
Apple reportedly developing new smart-home hub
One of the more significant products in Apple's reported roadmap is a new smart-home hub internally known as HomePad.
Apple is reportedly considering two versions of the device. One could feature a wall-mounted display, while another could resemble Google's Nest Hub. Both versions are expected to run on a new operating system called homeOS.
The HomePad is reportedly being developed with a 7-inch square display and an A18 chip. It could also offer FaceTime calling, smart-home controls and an AI-powered Siri experience.
The device is expected to launch sometime between October and early 2027, although Apple has not officially confirmed its development or release schedule.
Apple reportedly enters home security market
Apple is also reportedly working on its first dedicated smart security camera and video doorbell.
The move would take Apple into a category currently dominated by companies such as Amazon and Google. The new devices could become part of a wider Apple smart-home ecosystem centred around Siri and the company's other connected devices.
A refreshed full size HomePod is also reportedly in development, although there is currently no confirmed release date.
Looking further ahead, reports from Macworld and other outlets have suggested that Apple is considering a premium smart display with a larger 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm. Such a device could give Apple's smart home lineup a more mobile, tabletop form.
If the reported plans materialise, Apple could be preparing its most ambitious push into the smart-home market yet, expanding beyond speakers and streaming devices into displays, home automation and security products.
