The Ministry of Interior will consult relevant stakeholders before preparing its final recommendations. The consultation process is expected to involve federal and provincial authorities, law enforcement agencies and other institutions concerned with online safety.
Police departments from all provinces have submitted reports to the Ministry of Interior regarding an increasing number of cases involving child exploitation, obscenity and social media-related
crimes.
According to sources, these reports will be reviewed as the government formulates measures to regulate online platforms more effectively and address offences committed through social media.
The government will also examine social media regulations adopted by other countries, including Australia and the United Kingdom, as part of its review of possible measures for Pakistan.
Cases of child exploitation and obscene online content reported in Pakistan will also be assessed to determine what legal and regulatory changes may be required to prevent such offences.
The proposed measures are aimed at strengthening online safety and creating a more effective regulatory framework for social media platforms in the country. The Ministry of Interior will finalise its recommendations after consultations with the relevant stakeholders, according to ProPakistani.
