The advisory warns of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks enabled by modern technologies, particularly targeting banks’ online systems, digital banking platforms, payment systems and customers’ personal and financial data.
According to the advisory, hackers could use artificial intelligence to steal passwords and launch automated cyberattacks. Attackers may also attempt to display fake account balances to create panic among customers and undermine confidence in the financial system.
The warning extends beyond the financial sector to oil and gas facilities, electricity generation and distribution systems, and other critical infrastructure.
Industrial systems, water supply networks, transportation and other essential public services could also face potential cyber threats, the advisory cautioned.
The National Cyber Emergency Response Team also identified third-party service providers and insecure remote access systems as potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
It directed relevant departments and financial institutions to improve the security of their digital systems, review existing safeguards and ensure effective measures are in place to respond to potential cyberattacks.
