In London, criminals seem to have a selective appetite for Apple devices, largely ignoring Android phones during their heists. This curious pattern was highlighted in a recent report by 9to5Mac, fueled by accounts shared across social media.
According to the report, several Londoners recounted incidents in which their phones were snatched. The thieves would check the brand mid snatch, if it was an iPhone, it vanished with them, if it was an Android, they often left it behind or discarded it. In some instances, victims noted that the culprits didn’t even bother running away when they realized they’d grabbed the wrong device.
Security analysts explain the motive with straightforward logic. Stolen iPhones carry higher resale value in the black market. They fetch more money and are easier to unlock compared to many Android models.
Meanwhile, Android phones tend to fall in the mid range category, offering far less profit to opportunistic thieves.
This peculiar phenomenon highlights a modern truth, even crime is guided by the invisible hand of market demand. In London, at least, it seems only the allure of an Apple logo can turn a casual thief into a devoted collector.
