According to a report by WABetaInfo, the birthday reminder feature has appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS devices.
The feature will allow users to keep track of the birthdays of their friends and family members directly within WhatsApp, reducing the need to rely on separate calendar apps.
According to the report, users will receive notifications about the birthdays of people saved in their contacts. The feature will also allow users to open a direct chat with the person and send them a birthday message.
The report said that WhatsApp is replacing the Updates tab with a new Contacts tab on iOS devices, where the birthday reminder feature is currently being tested.
The new tool will use birthday information provided by users while setting up their WhatsApp accounts.
In simple terms, the birthday reminder feature will only work if the birthdays of people in a user's contacts are available on WhatsApp.
If friends or relatives have not provided their birthday details on WhatsApp, the reminder feature will not be available for them.
When a contact's birthday arrives, WhatsApp will highlight that person in the Contacts tab with a cake emoji and a birthday label. Users will then be able to quickly send the contact a birthday greeting.
The report added that the feature is still under development and is not available to all beta users. WhatsApp may therefore make further changes before officially rolling it out.
