According to police reports, the incident took place on Thursday morning as the players were walking from their hotel to a nearby café.
Local media reports indicate that a motorcyclist followed the players and allegedly touched them inappropriately before fleeing the scene. The players immediately sent out an SOS alert and informed their team’s security manager, Danny Simms.
Acting promptly on the security manager’s complaint, police registered a case at the MIG police station and arrested the suspect, identified as Aqil Khan. The incident reportedly occurred in the Khajrana Road area, and a passerby had noted the motorbike number, which helped authorities track down the suspect.
Police officer Nadhi Raghunshi confirmed that the accused has multiple previous criminal cases registered against him. Under the Indian Penal Code, the suspect has been charged under Sections 74 (using force to violate a woman’s dignity) and 78 (stalking).
Additional Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met with the affected players and recorded their statements. Police have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that security measures around the Australian team have been significantly tightened.
This incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of international athletes in India, highlighting the importance of strict protective measures and swift law enforcement response during global sporting events.
