After being asked to bat first, the hosts struggled early as Pakistan pacers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali removed two batters with only 31 runs on the board, putting Bangladesh under pressure in the opening session.
However, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and experienced batter Mominul Haque steadied the innings with a composed unbeaten partnership for the third wicket, guiding Bangladesh to 101 without further damage before lunch.
Pakistan entered the match with a reshuffled side, as Babar Azam was ruled out due to a left knee injury. Youngsters Abdullah Fazal and Azan Awais were handed their Test debuts.
The two-match series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle. Pakistan currently sit fifth in the standings with one win and one defeat from two matches, while Bangladesh are placed eighth with one draw and one loss.
The previous Test series between the two sides took place in August 2024, when Bangladesh secured a historic 2-0 clean sweep over Pakistan — their first-ever away Test series victory against the Green Shirts.
The second Test of the series is scheduled to be played in Sylhet from May 16 to 20.
