England won the toss and elected to bowl first. Liam Dawson led the bowling attack with three wickets as Sri Lanka managed to set England a target of 146 runs.
England made a strong start to the chase, reaching 48 runs without loss after four overs. However, opener Aneurin Donald was dismissed for 21 before captain Jos Buttler followed for 30, leaving England at 55 for two.
Harry Brook then played aggressively, hitting three sixes in an over, but was dismissed for 23 after Wanindu Hasaranga’s delivery was caught brilliantly by Eshan Malinga.
Tom Banton then took control of the chase, scoring an unbeaten 52 off 24 balls with a number of boundaries and sixes.
England reached the 146-run target in just 12.1 overs for the loss of four wickets, winning the match with 47 balls to spare.
The victory gave England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. England had won the opening T20I in Southampton by 119 runs on Tuesday.
The result also extended England’s winning streak against Sri Lanka in T20 cricket to 14 consecutive matches.
Jos Buttler also reached a major milestone during the match, becoming the first batter to score 15,000 career runs in T20 cricket.
After the victory, England captain Harry Brook praised his team’s performance and highlighted Liam Dawson’s contribution with the ball. Brook said Sri Lanka had made an aggressive start but England fought back well with the ball, while Dawson showed excellent game awareness.
