The 31-year-old fast bowler achieved the milestone during New Zealand’s 2-0 Test series victory over the West Indies, claiming 23 wickets across three matches at an average of 15.43.
Overall in 2025, Duffy’s wicket tally reached 81 from 36 matches, overtaking the previous New Zealand record of 79 set by Richard Hadlee in 1985. Duffy reached the landmark in 39 innings at an average of 17.11, while Hadlee had achieved his total in 29 innings at an average of 18.51.
Duffy made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on August 7, 2025, and went on to enjoy a breakout year. He finished 2025 with 25 wickets from just four Test matches and earned the Player of the Series award after taking a five-wicket haul in each of the three Tests against the West Indies.
Across formats in 2025, Duffy took 25 Test wickets, 21 wickets in 11 one-day internationals and 35 wickets in 21 T20 internationals, underlining his impact for New Zealand.
Speaking after the match, Duffy said he became aware of the record during the game. “I saw that list of most wickets in a calendar year at lunchtime, and there were some amazing names on it. To be on any sort of list alongside players like that is really special,” he said.
