Pakistan resumed their innings at 179-1 with debutants Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal at the crease. However, Bangladesh quickly struck back when Taskin Ahmed dismissed Azan Awais after the youngster completed a memorable century on Test debut.
Pakistan then suffered a middle-order collapse as captain Shan Masood managed only 9 runs, Saud Shakeel was dismissed for a duck, and Abdullah Fazal fell for 60. The visitors slipped to 230-5 before Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the innings slightly.
At lunch, Pakistan were 251-5, still trailing Bangladesh by 162 runs. Agha Salman remained unbeaten on 12 while Rizwan was batting on 8.
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed three wickets while Taskin Ahmed picked up two crucial breakthroughs.
Earlier, Pakistan had ended Day 2 strongly at 179-1 after Mohammad Abbas starred with the ball, taking five wickets to help bowl out Bangladesh for 413. Shaheen Shah Afridi supported him with three wickets.
Bangladesh had dominated Day 1 through impressive innings from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque, while Mushfiqur Rahim also contributed with a composed knock.
