Speaking to journalists after an event in Karachi, Shahid Afridi said that holding Faiz Hameed answerable was an encouraging step and showed that the Pakistan Army had started the accountability process from within its own ranks.
He stressed that accountability should not be selective, adding that anyone who harmed Pakistan, in any capacity, must be brought to task.
Afridi’s remarks carried a clear message, accountability loses its meaning if it stops halfway. He said that fairness and transparency are essential if the country is to move forward with trust and confidence.
Turning to cricket, Afridi spoke about the upcoming World Cup and warned against unnecessary experiments at a critical time. He said that the team combination should already be settled, allowing players to focus on performance rather than constant changes.
According to him, a captain can only lead with authority when he is given a stable and clear setup. ‘The captain needs to feel the team is his,’ Afridi said, adding that last minute adjustments often create confusion instead of solutions.
Afridi also highlighted the importance of promoting the Pakistan Super League, calling it a strong national brand that deserves wider exposure. He suggested organizing a PSL road show and urged franchise owners to actively take part in such outreach efforts.
He concluded by saying that whether in national institutions or on the cricket field, consistency, responsibility, and clear direction are the building blocks of long term success.
