Footage circulating on Chinese social media platforms showed thick plumes of smoke rising over the site, with buildings reduced to rubble and debris scattered across a wide area. While the visuals could not be independently verified, they align with reports describing extensive structural damage.
Emergency services launched a large-scale rescue operation, with nearly 500 firefighters, medical teams, and rescue personnel deployed to the scene to contain the aftermath and assist victims.
President Xi Jinping has called for a swift and thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion, emphasizing strict accountability for those responsible. He also directed authorities to strengthen safety protocols, particularly in high-risk industries such as fireworks manufacturing.
China dominates the global fireworks market, accounting for over two-thirds of worldwide exports, with shipments valued at approximately $1.14 billion last year. The incident has once again raised concerns about industrial safety standards in sectors handling hazardous materials.
