According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Qassem said that recent US sanctions imposed on nine individuals linked to Hezbollah “will only strengthen our resolve.” He also criticised the Lebanese authorities for not taking a clear position against these measures.

The Hezbollah chief further alleged that Israel’s ultimate objective is to occupy Lebanon, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.

In a separate statement, Qassem urged the Lebanese government to avoid direct negotiations with Israel, at a time when preparations are underway for a fourth round of talks in Washington next month.

He said that direct negotiations are “completely unacceptable” and would serve Israel’s interests.

Addressing Lebanese authorities, Qassem warned against making decisions under US pressure, saying such steps could undermine what he described as “resistance forces” in the region.

Political observers say these remarks come amid rising diplomatic activity in the region and ongoing discussions involving Lebanon and Israel, which could further intensify internal political tensions within Lebanon.
