According to Saudi Civil Defence, the incident took place on Thursday in Taif governorate. The drone was intercepted and destroyed in the air before it could reach its intended target.
Saudi Civil Defence spokesperson said pieces of the destroyed drone fell at several locations across Taif city. The falling debris damaged homes and vehicles and resulted in the death of one Yemeni citizen.
Two other people were injured in the incident. The injured included a Saudi woman and a Pakistani citizen, both of whom were shifted to hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the Pakistani citizen was reportedly critical.
Saudi authorities confirmed that the drone had been launched by the Houthis from a border area and was heading towards Taif. Saudi air defence systems intercepted the drone before it could reach the city.
Although the drone was destroyed in the air, its debris fell into populated areas, resulting in both loss of life and property damage.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over drone attacks targeting Saudi territory and the risks posed to civilians when intercepted drones or their debris fall over populated areas.
