Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said in a video statement to the state news agency IRNA that Israel is constantly violating its obligations and ceasefire requirements in Lebanon, so this issue will be the most important topic in today’s talks.

According to Esmail Baghai, issues related to the availability of Iran’s frozen or restricted financial assets and the issuance of necessary licenses for the sale of Iranian oil are also part of the negotiation agenda.

Iran has made it clear that it will not make progress towards a final and comprehensive agreement with the United States until the war in Lebanon is completely stopped.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the first clause of the preliminary memorandum of understanding is related to the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, especially the ceasefire in Lebanon, and it is not possible to enter the final negotiation phase without its implementation.

These talks are the first formal round after the signing of the recent memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. The aim of the memorandum is to maintain the ceasefire for 60 days and to start comprehensive negotiations on the nuclear program, economic sanctions and other important issues.

US Vice President JD Vance has also arrived in Switzerland to participate in the talks. Speaking to reporters before his departure, he said that the nuclear program and the ceasefire in Lebanon will be the two most important topics in the talks and he hopes that progress will be made on these issues.

Jared Kushner and Steve Wittkoff are already in Switzerland and are discussing various technical issues. On the other hand, the Iranian delegation is led by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is also part of the delegation.

Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga has once again said that Iran does not want to acquire nuclear weapons and is ready to give a written assurance in this regard, but will not give up its right to enrich uranium.

Meanwhile, tensions also persist over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing Israeli actions and alleged violations by the United States.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) says that ship traffic through the international waterway is continuing as usual and 55 commercial ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, carrying more than 17 million barrels of oil to global markets.

On the other hand, clashes are also ongoing between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army has confirmed that another soldier has been killed, bringing the number of Israeli soldiers killed since the Iran-US understanding to five.

The Israeli military says it has been instructed by the political leadership to implement the ceasefire, but defensive operations within the security zone will continue.

Hezbollah has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire, saying that Israeli forces attempted to advance into southern Lebanon, while according to Lebanese state media, Israeli air strikes targeted multiple areas, killing dozens.
