According to a Reuters report published by Arab News, the head of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announced on Sunday the launch of a major military operation against the Houthis to retake areas under their control.

Pakistan’s foreign minister said on Friday that Iran had proposed political talks with Yemen’s Houthis following their attacks. The proposal is expected to be discussed at this week’s meeting of the Makkah Defence Pact committee in Riyadh.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said the meeting would review recent developments in the region and assess progress in efforts to institutionalise the alliance.

According to the statement, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yasar Guler and Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu will attend the meeting. Officials from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will also participate.
