The condemnation was issued during the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held on Saturday at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah. The emergency session was convened to discuss developments in Somalia following Israel’s announcement on December 26, 2025.

Addressing the opening session, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha said the meeting was taking place at an extremely sensitive time. He described Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a dangerous precedent, a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

Pakistan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The session adopted two resolutions, one condemning Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and another rejecting plans aimed at the displacement of Palestinians from their land.

In a strongly worded resolution, the OIC reaffirmed its full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and expressed solidarity with the Somali government and people. It reiterated its absolute rejection of any action that undermines Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity or authority over its entire territory.

The organisation stressed that Israel’s decision violates international law, the United Nations Charter and the core principle of respect for state sovereignty. It warned that the move poses a serious risk to peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, with wider regional and global implications.

Reaffirming its long-held position, the OIC declared that Somaliland remains an inseparable part of Somalia and has no independent international legal status. It said any attempt to recognise or separate the region constitutes interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.

The OIC also condemned what it described as an illegal visit by an Israeli official to Somaliland on January 6, 2026, calling it another breach of Somalia’s sovereignty. It categorically rejected any foreign military, security or intelligence presence on Somali territory without the approval of the federal government.

The organisation urged member states and international bodies to avoid any official engagement with Somaliland authorities outside Somalia’s national framework. In a separate resolution, the OIC also rejected any cooperation with Israeli plans to forcibly displace Palestinians, including from Gaza, warning that such actions would amount to serious violations of international and humanitarian law.

The OIC called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to uphold their responsibilities to protect international peace and security, particularly in the Horn of Africa.
