In a statement issued on Saturday, the Foreign Office said Pakistan supports efforts aimed at preserving Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and urged Yemeni stakeholders to avoid unilateral actions that could further escalate the situation.
“Pakistan is closely following the recent developments in Yemen. We underscore the need for upholding the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, and express the hope that the Yemeni stakeholders will avoid any unilateral steps that may result in further escalation of the situation,” the statement said.
The Foreign Office added that Pakistan fully supports diplomatic efforts being undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen, while also commending the role of the United Arab Emirates in peace-seeking initiatives.
Islamabad also called on all Yemeni parties to engage constructively and in good faith toward an inclusive and negotiated political solution based on agreed parameters. It expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would lead to concrete steps to end the conflict and ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.
On Friday, the UAE welcomed Saudi efforts to support security in Yemen as the two Gulf allies sought to present a united front despite backing different sides in the conflict. Oman, acting as a mediator, called for engagement in a comprehensive political dialogue.
The Houthis seized the capital Sanaa in 2014 and went on to control most of northern Yemen, pushing out the internationally recognised government. The conflict has since claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
Fighting has reduced significantly since a UN negotiated truce came into effect in 2022, though the conflict remains unresolved.
