Ukraine’s prisoner of war coordination centre said in a statement that the remains were handed over as part of repatriation efforts and were identified by the Russian side as likely belonging to Ukrainian servicemen.
The centre added that investigators and forensic experts would carry out all necessary procedures to confirm the identities of the returned bodies.
The announcement came a day after Russia and Ukraine exchanged 205 prisoners of war each.
Earlier, Donald Trump had announced a three-day ceasefire from Saturday to Monday, along with an agreement for both countries to exchange 1,000 prisoners each.
Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Friday’s prisoner exchange represented the first phase of the larger swap arrangement announced by Trump.
Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago, prisoner exchanges and the return of bodies of fallen soldiers have remained among the few areas where Moscow and Kyiv have continued limited cooperation despite the ongoing conflict.
