According to flight tracking service FlightAware, the airport recorded 279 cancellations and 339 delays by late evening. Nationwide, more than 5,400 flights were cancelled as a powerful storm system moved across the country.
Officials confirmed that the disruptions were weather-related, with no major security concerns reported.
Passengers faced long waits and repeated cancellations. Traveller Maeve Higgins, who was heading to Florida, told CBS News that her flight was cancelled multiple times despite being rebooked.
“We booked our trip two months ago, and everything was good, and then this morning we had our flight get canceled one time, rescheduled it, and then it got canceled again,” she said. She added that they had to visit the airport in person after being on hold for hours trying to reach customer service.
Another passenger, Lauren Price, said their group decided to proceed with travel plans despite disruptions due to non-refundable hotel bookings.
By midday, all remaining flights from Boston to New York had been cancelled, further compounding travel chaos.
The severe weather system continues to impact travel nationwide, with airlines working to restore normal operations.
