According to international news agencies, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that President Putin received the invitation through diplomatic channels. He said Russia is reviewing all aspects and details of the proposal and is seeking clarification from US officials through diplomatic contacts.

Reports also indicate that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Putin, has been invited to join the proposed forum.

The White House announced the establishment of the Board of Peace on Friday, describing it as the central body for implementing President Trump’s 20-point plan to end the Gaza war. According to the statement, the board will oversee peace efforts, reconstruction, the mobilization of international resources, and accountability mechanisms in Gaza after the conflict.

As part of the initiative, the United States has also set up the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), along with an Executive Board and a Gaza Executive Board, which will assist in administrative and operational matters.

Donald Trump will chair the Board of Peace, and representatives from the United States, Europe, the Arab world, and other regions are expected to be included. However, the initiative has faced strong criticism from analysts and experts.

Critics argue that the proposed structure relegates Palestinian leadership to a third-tier role, granting them only municipal-level authority. They warn that this undermines Palestinian political sovereignty and promotes a commercialized, neo-colonial model of governance.

Historically, Russia has sought to maintain balanced relations with all parties in the Middle East, including Israel and the Palestinians. However, relations between Moscow and Israel have cooled since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022 and Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

At the same time, Russia has strengthened ties with Iran and other anti-Israel forces while also expanding cooperation with Gulf Arab states amid Western sanctions.

President Putin has previously praised Donald Trump’s efforts at conflict resolution. In an October statement, Putin said Trump was making serious attempts to resolve complex crises that have lasted for years and decades, adding that success in the Middle East would mark a historic breakthrough.

The Kremlin has consistently criticized Israel’s war in Gaza. During a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in May, Putin described Gaza as facing a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe and said Russia was providing every possible form of assistance to the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, concerns have also emerged in Europe over Trump’s plan. Reports suggest that the United States has asked countries to pay at least $1 billion for permanent membership on the Board of Peace. European leaders have expressed reservations, warning that such a move could weaken the role of the United Nations.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada will join the board but will not pay the $1 billion membership fee. As of Monday morning, only Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam had formally accepted the invitation.

The board’s executive committee is expected to include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and other close allies. However, Blair has distanced himself from the demand for a permanent membership fee, with his spokesperson clarifying that he is not involved in determining board membership.

Political analysts say rising tensions between the United States and Europe are being viewed positively in Russian media. Commentators on Russian state television have described cracks within the Western alliance as beneficial for Moscow.

These developments are unfolding at a time when President Trump has also expressed interest in US control over Greenland—a move strongly rejected by Denmark and its European allies, who have firmly stated that Greenland is not for sale and have pledged full solidarity with Denmark on the issue.
