He said the United States is close to achieving its strategic goals and is considering winding down military efforts in the region.
In his post, Trump listed five key objectives, including neutralising Iran’s missile capabilities and related infrastructure, dismantling its defence industrial base, and eliminating its naval and air power along with air defence systems. He also stressed preventing Iran from reaching nuclear capability while ensuring the US can respond quickly if needed, and protecting key regional allies such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.
He also highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting it should be secured by other nations that rely on it, with US support provided only if requested. He added that once Iran’s threat is removed, such protection would no longer be necessary.
Trump concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to regional security and the protection of allied nations.
Meanwhile, according to The Wall Street Journal, Iran launched two intermediate range ballistic missiles targeting a US UK military base on Diego Garcia.
Neither missile hit the base, which is about 4000 kilometres from Iran. Reports said one missile failed during flight, while the other was intercepted by a missile fired from a US warship, though it remains unclear if the interception was fully successful.
The Pentagon did not immediately comment on the development.
