It is worth noting that Trump had first issued an executive order in January 2025 aimed at restricting birthright citizenship.
However, on June 30, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected that effort, ruling that the previous executive order could not be enforced.
The latest executive order marks another attempt by the Trump administration to pursue changes to the country's birthright citizenship policy.
