Addressing a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said the agreement signed in Makkah represented a continuation of the longstanding cooperation among the three countries.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had also signed a defence agreement last year, while Pakistan and Turkiye had maintained decades-long defence and strategic cooperation, he added.
Under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed on Friday, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three.
The agreement was signed during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
PM Shehbaz said protecting the Haramain Sharifain was an important responsibility of the people and armed forces of Pakistan.
He added that the new agreement would strengthen the wider Muslim Ummah.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had earlier said the Makkah Accord was defensive in nature and remained open to other countries willing to uphold its fundamental principles.
Dar said the agreement reflected the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye and was aimed at strengthening cooperation to address shared peace and security challenges.
PM Shehbaz welcomes PML-N gains in AJK polls
Commenting on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the results of the first two phases reflected public confidence in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He said the PML-N had secured victories in both phases and described the results as an expression of confidence in party supremo Nawaz Sharif.
The prime minister thanked the people of Azad Kashmir for supporting the PML-N.
He said certain elements had deliberately attempted to disrupt the situation in AJK, stressing that political disputes and problems should be resolved through dialogue.
‘Terrorism will be eliminated’
Speaking about the security situation, PM Shehbaz said the scourge of terrorism would once again be eliminated from the country.
He paid tribute to Pakistan's security forces for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and said the nation remained determined to defeat the threat.
