Named Tianlang, the four-legged robot successfully completed a practical training exercise in temperatures of up to 500°C.
The robot was equipped with a special heat-resistant protective suit designed to protect it from extreme temperatures.
According to scientists, Tianlang can enter a fire for up to two minutes at a time and carry out rescue and firefighting operations.
The robot can detect not only the centre of a fire but also areas containing toxic gases. It can also locate people trapped inside dangerous areas and help rescue them.
The company that developed the robot hopes Tianlang can eventually be used by firefighters to assess conditions inside a burning building before human firefighters enter.
