The network went live on August 12 and is streaming on X through Mirage’s official account. Unlike traditional news broadcasts, the service uses synthetic presenters to deliver news in real time without a human anchor appearing on screen.

The launch represents one of the most ambitious attempts yet to use generative AI for live news broadcasting.

Mirage was founded in 2021 by former Snap engineers Gaurav Misra and Dwight Churchill. The company has focused on making video production easier through artificial intelligence and has developed technology capable of generating AI actors and marketing videos.

In March 2026, Mirage raised $75 million, taking its total funding to around $175 million. Its enterprise platform, Mirage Studio, is already used to create AI-generated actors and promotional content.

The new AI news network builds on the same technology but applies it to live journalism.

AI News Anchors Are Not New

Several organisations have previously experimented with AI-generated news presenters.

China's Xinhua introduced a virtual news anchor in 2018, while Kuwait's state news agency unveiled an AI-generated presenter named Fedha in 2023. India's Aaj Tak also introduced an AI anchor, Sana, that year.

Los Angeles-based startup Channel 1 announced plans for an AI-anchor news network in 2023, although it did not achieve the scale of live broadcasting originally envisioned.

Unlike those projects, Mirage is positioning its service as a continuously operating AI news network rather than an AI presenter used alongside human journalists.

Why Mirage Chose X

The network's launch on X gives Mirage access to a large global audience without requiring viewers to download a separate application or visit a dedicated streaming platform.

The move also comes as X expands its focus on live video and creator-based content.

For Mirage, AI could significantly reduce the costs associated with conventional broadcasting, including presenters, studios, makeup teams, teleprompter operators and production staff.

An AI presenter can theoretically operate around the clock, deliver stories in multiple languages and continue broadcasting without the scheduling limitations faced by human anchors.

Can Audiences Trust AI News?

The launch also raises major questions about the future of journalism.

While AI-generated presenters can make news production cheaper and potentially more accessible, they do not independently report or investigate stories. That raises questions over accuracy, accountability and whether audiences will trust news delivered by a synthetic person.

Mirage's launch is therefore not only a technological experiment but also a test of whether viewers are willing to accept AI-generated faces as the new face of news.
