Sources said the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) sent the phones for forensic examination after investigators unlocked them during questioning.
The investigation is primarily focused on financial matters and suspected transactions involving the two players.
Their financial activities before and after the ongoing Test series against England are also being examined, while details of their bank accounts are being reviewed as part of the investigation.
According to sources, transactions made through the players’ bank accounts during the relevant period are being analysed. If any suspicious transaction is identified, investigators will examine the source of the funds and how the money was transferred.
Sources said the investigation would be taken forward after the forensic report on the mobile phones is received. However, the NCCIA has so far not officially confirmed any allegations against either cricketer.
Imam and Rizwan questioned by NCCIA
Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan were summoned to the NCCIA Lahore office on Wednesday as part of an investigation into the dressing room leaks case.
The two cricketers reportedly spent more than three and a half hours being questioned by investigators and also sought additional time to submit their responses.
They were questioned about their contacts and meetings during training sessions and matches in England.
The latest development comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Monday that it was internally reviewing reports that had appeared in the media.
The board said the matter was being examined in accordance with its established rules and procedures.
The PCB said the views of all relevant individuals and other aspects of the matter would be given appropriate consideration during the investigation.
The board also said the process was continuing under PCB regulations, with all relevant individuals being considered as part of the proceedings.
Investigation follows reports about players’ off-field conduct
The development follows media reports concerning alleged disciplinary and off-field conduct involving members of Pakistan’s Test squad during the team’s tour of England.
The names of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were reportedly mentioned in connection with alleged off-field matters.
The NCCIA’s forensic examination of the players’ phones is now expected to form part of the next stage of the investigation, with further action to be taken after the forensic report is received.
